[edit] Synopsis

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Bowser plans to turn Prince Hugo the Huge, the new ruler of Big Island, into a poodle (of disputable size), and in order to accomplish this, he transforms Ludwig, Roy, Morton, and Larry into giant ninjas (hence the episode's title). When his army is defeated by the now-gigantic Koopalings, Hugo sends for the Mario Bros. to help him. Mario and Luigi try to provide offense against the Koopas by gathering Raccoon power, but they fail and the Koopas capture Luigi, Princess Peach, and Toad along with Hugo. Mario, however, manages to escape along with Hugo's foul-tempered parrot.

After turning Hugo into a poodle as he said he would do, Bowser decides to keep his kids as giant ninjas a while longer, much to their delight. But while they try to make plans for their next attack, Mario sneaks in and switches the spheres around on Bowser's wands. He then sasses Bowser, who, thanks to some reverse psychology from Peach, decides to turn him into a poodle as well. But when Mario gets zapped, he instead turns into a giant ninja who sets the others free. Luigi then turns the Koopalings back to their normal selves, forcing them and Bowser to retreat. Mario and Hugo are then restored to normal, but now the parrot is angry because Mario dented his cage letting the others out.

[edit] Trivia/Goofs

  • The episode's title is a reference to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, which was also spoofed by way of the Koopa Bros. in Paper Mario. In addition, the line "I love being a Koopa!", which Morton bellows right before the commercial break, is a direct take-off on a similar line said by Michaelangelo in the first movie. (It should be noted that the original TMNT cartoon was airing in the same time slot as Captain N and the Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 at the time.)
  • The other three Koopalings (Wendy, Iggy, and Lemmy) also appear at the beginning of the episode, but they disappear immediately before the others are transformed.
  • When Bowser's back is first seen, Bully and Kookie have orange mouths and Hop has sunglasses on.
  • When Bowser calls out Big Mouth, Bully, Kookie, and Cheatsy's names, his crown isn't on his head.
  • Some shots of the Mario Bros. dodging the Angry Sun were used in the show's end credits; however, here, when the Marios hit the block, it disappears upon being smashed, wheras in the credits, it stays there even after they hit it.
  • When Morton says "So, King Dad, what kingdom are we giant ninja Koopas going to conquer next?", one of his claws is the same color as his skin.
  • Though all of the wands do different things, the same wand shrunk the Koopalings back to size and made Hugo normal again. Also, it is a red wand, but Bowser dropped a green wand. Also, the parrot made himself a giant ninja through a blue wand.
  • When Princess is tricking Bowser with reverse psychology, Luigi is colored like Mario.
  • When Mario swaps the wand tops, the green one turns red, and when he finishes, the wands still have the exact same color for their tops. This stays the same throughout the rest of the episode: the wands have the same colors as they did before they were swapped.
  • The color scheme on the parrot keeps changing throughout the episode.
  • Kooky speaks in Roy's Brooklyn accent when he suggests they conquer Water Land.
  • Just before the first commercial break, Roy grabs Toad and the princess but they somehow appear in Morton's fist.
  • The arrangement of the different wands in Bowser's throneroom keeps changing even before they were swapped for real.
  • This episode marks the first of three times in which Bowser's real name is metioned. The other two are Reign Storm and Crimes "R" Us.
  • When Ludwig says "Water Land" (in Roy's voice), and Larry says "Desert Land", their nostrils disappear.
