[edit] What are snake mackerel?

"Snake mackerel are perciform fishes in the family Gempylidae." That's nice to know, but it leaves me wondering whether "snake mackerel" is actually synonymous with "Gempylidae." I also wonder what happened to "fish" as a plural, especially since "mackerel" is being used as a plural. Why not say snake mackerels are fish? D021317c 10:35, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
