Snæfell

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There are three volcanoes with the name Snæfell in Iceland:

  1. The famous mountain Snæfellsjökull with its big glacier on top lies in the west of the island (1446 m).
  2. The higher one of the other two volcanoes by the name Snæfell (1833 m) is situated in the north-east of Vatnajökull. It is a rather big central volcano dominating its surrounding area by about 1000 m. Not far from there, the much discussed power station Kárahnjúkar is being constructed in the Highlands of Iceland.
  3. A rather unknown mountain of a height of 1383 m to be found to the south-east of the Vatnajökull near the famous glacier lake Jökulsárlón.

There is also a mountain called Snaefell on the Isle of Man.
