Smooth operator

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Smooth operator is a generic term for any low-pass filter operation which smoothens a time function. In its simplest form, the running average over a number of samples in a time function is computed, an operation also known as box-car filtering. In finance, three-point or five-point windows are often used to flatten out fluctuations in financial data.
