Brighton takes this a as a challenge, and returns home the following day with a note from his principal about being caught smoking. Fran is at first furious with Brighton, but then realizes that she may have been Brighton's "inspiration". Brighton warns her that if she goes to Maxwell with the note, Brighton will tell Maxwell that Fran gave him the idea, so Fran decides to keep it a secret. Fearing a retaliation from Brighton, Fran decides to tell him the truth, and he eventually forgives her. However, Fran is surprised when Brighton doesn't blame her and Maxwell deduces that Brighton must actually like Fran. Maxwell explains that Brighton has never gotten along with any of his previous nannies as he felt that they were trying to replace his deceased mother. However, Fran and Maxwell still believed that Brighton needed to learn his lesson, and took him to the retirement home to meet Fran's Grandma Yetta, a heavy smoker. Repulsed by Yetta, Brighton promised never to smoke again.
