[edit] School's History

Dr (Mrs.) Ferguson David from Diocese Anglican, Singapore, founded St. David's High School in 1912. She was also the founder of St. David's Hospital in Melaka, which ultimately closed to make way for a school, Sekolah Tinggi Cina. In 1956, Commander Hudson from the Christ Church Parish Committee gave a 5.5 acre plot of land in Bukit Baru to be the site for this school. That same year, Director of Education, Dr FJA Rawcliffe, with the permission of the Minister of Education at the time, Allayarham Tun Abdul Razak, initiated the project. Four years later, a three-story building including toilets and canteen was ready and officiated by the Governor of Melaka, Tun Hj. Abd. Malek bin Yusuf. Another three years hence, the 4th Form opened with 29 students in the arts stream, and 23 students in the science stream. In 1964, 55 St. David students sat for the Cambridge examinations for the first time. The Melaka State Government gave a piece of land (2.5 acre) to the school for a playing field. On 1970-09-25, Deputy Director of Education Malaysia, Mr. Abdullah Sultan officiated the opening of the ‘Seni Perusahaan' (Industrial Arts) building. On 1975-08-05, the science block was officiated by YB Mr. Chan Siang Sun, Deputy Director of Education Malaysia. In 1989, the school began accepting female students. In 1994, the Khoo Wing consisting of four classrooms was built to help alleviate overcrowding.
