Smith Observatory was completed in 1882 and served Beloit College in Beloit, Wisconsin. The observatory was built as a memorial to John F. Smith. It served the campus from 1882 to the 1950's. In 1967 the observatory was used as a coffee house shortly before it was torn down in 1968. The function of the observatory was replaced by the Thompson Observatory.
