Smile is a British Sunday morning children's programme created by the independent production company Darrall Macqueen Ltd. It first aired in 2002 and was originally shown on the CBBC Channel. It was moved to BBC Two to make way for Dick and Dom.
The show includes cartoons, celebrities and games. The original presenters were Fearne Cotton, Reggie Yates and Devin Griffin (credited as DJ Devstar). In 2003, Devin left to become a pop singer in the USA and was replaced by Barney Harwood. Soon after, Fearne and Reggie left as well, so Barney was joined by Kirsten O'Brien and Rochelle Wiseman. On 26 March 2006, Rochelle Wiseman left the Smile team of presenters, and currently Barney and Kirsten present the show, with only Barney presenting the first half with the blue bear Nev. The presenters have always been joined by a cute little blue bear puppet Nev (Neville), who lives with Barney. Nev has become so popular he has even been made into a cuddly toy and various other merchandise.
From 5 March 2006, digital viewers were able to press the red button to access a BBCi service called eTV which allows them to switch between regular Smile and backstage. Most of the action backstage is one of the presenters hanging out with Smile's special guests and doing challenges, playing games and chatting. Smile was the first ever programme to try out eTV. Unfortunately this is not happening because of only two presenters. Prevously, viewers could also watch an extra seven minutes of programme content after the end of the main show.
Smile won the Interactive award at the Children's BAFTAs in November 2005.

[edit] Cartoons
The following have been transmitted during the programme:
[edit] Nev
Nev is a small, blue bear with patches in places and is missing part of his ear (due to the cat under his bed ("Bandit") trying to eat him). Originally, the voice of Nev was prerecorded, and his limited vocabulary played in as appropriate. However, when Nev took on a more significant role in the show, they then got a new puppeteer. (Ross Mullan) was recruited to provide the voice live. As a consequence, Nev's voice in the studio sounds distinctly different to that in the many phone-in games used on the programme. Here are a few facts about Nev:
- Cannot say long words very well and cannot sing (but he can rap well).
- He loves Duckie, Jam, Barney and Kirsten.
- He likes sleeping in.
- He calls Kirsten "Krusty" (most possibly because he can't say Kirsten).
- He doesn't like baths or scary stories.
- Growls (like a real bear would) if scared or intimidated.
- Likes dressing up.
[edit] Nev's Little Chefs
Every Morning on Smile, two girls show Nev how to cook some recipes like:
- Nev's Biscuits
- Nev's Mush
- Watermelon Lemonade
- Nev's Fruit Ripple
- Apple Smiles
- World Cup Biscuits
- Banana Lollies
- BlueBeary Muffins
- Breakfast Feast
- Mini Golden Nuggets
- French Bread Pizza Boat
- Jelly Beary Sundae
The recent recipes are on the Smile Player and all the recipes are found on the Smile section of the BBC website.[1]
[edit] Nev's quotes
- "You don't scare me"
- "Yeah, Yeah" (on air and on a CBBC promo)
- "Confused"
- "Chrissy-mussy" (followed by Christmas music) - Nev's version of Christmas.
- "Love you, Barney" or "Love you, Krusty."
- "Schnappi, Schnappi, Schnappi"
- "Woo woo woo woo." (when trying to sing Quick on the Draw or any other song)
- "Duckie! or Jam!"
- "No, no, no, no." (said very quickly).

- "Wrap!" (in a promo for CBBC)
- "Zibedeah"
[edit] Games Games Games
Currently they're in the middle of something called "Games Games Games", which is a series of games pitting boys against girls. The current series score is about 20-12, with girls in the lead. They win a prize if they win the game but if they lose they have to go in Nevs bath of gong and get pelted with jam pies.

[edit] Nev's Nuggets
The object of the game is to get a golden-nugget, where there are 3 clues on the web and two at the end of the show. On the website there's a "spot the difference" amagram and a word search. On the programme there is a rap by Nev and a "acting" clue as well. Ten prizes can be won!
