Smile... It Confuses People is the first album by the UK singer Sandi Thom, released in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland on June 5, 2006 (see 2006 in music) by RCA Records. The album is a mix between a pop folk songs — written by Thom herself and Tom Gilbert.

The album produced Thom's first number-one single on the UK Singles Chart, Ireland Singles Chart and in Australia, giving her song the record of longest period at number one in Australia for 2006 and becoming the highest selling single for 2006. The album also generated another two singles but failed to chart successfully. Smile... It Confuses People was certified platinum by BPI selling three hundred thousand copies around the UK.

The album went straight to number one in its week of release in the UK (on the chart issued June 11, 2006) with sales of 12,100 copies. It then fell to number two on its second week being knocked off the top spot by Keane's album Under the Iron Sea. The album then fell to number nine then fell out of the top ten to number thirteen. It only spent another three weeks in the top twenty before it fell out to number twenty-six. It spent a total of eighteen weeks in the top forty leaving at number thirty-nine. The album was the sixty-eighth highest selling album for 2006 in the UK with sales of 313,200 copies.

In Australia the album made its debut on the Albums Charts on August 7, 2006 at number sixty. On its second week it jumped fourteen places to number forty-six then rose two places to forty-four but on its fourth week fell back to forty-six. It wasn't until its sixth week in the chart where it made a big impact, jumping from number forty to number twenty-eight. Two weeks later of its eighth week in the chart it jumped from twenty-three to number eleven breaking the top twenty. On its ninth week in the chart at number fifteen the album was certified Gold by ARIA selling thirty-five thousand copies around Australia. The album fell down the chart from then on rising twice and re-entering the top fifty twice spening seventeen weeks in it. It was the seventy-eighth highest selling album for 2006.

The singles released from Smile... It Confuses People were successful in most music markets. "I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker (with Flowers in My Hair)" was the first song released from the album and topped the UK, Ireland Singles Chart for two weeks the Australian ARIA Singles Chart for ten weeks making it the highest selling single for 2006.It was accredited Double Platinum (140,000 units) by ARIA. It also charted on the U.S. Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 at number twenty-five. "What If I'm Right" was the second song released from the album and was not as successful as the first reaching the top thirty in the UK and Ireland and top forty in Australia and New Zealand. "Lonely Girl" was the third song released from the album but was only available for digital download released in the UK on December 4, 2006.
