Smarthome

Co-Founded in 1992 by Joe Dada, Smarthome is a wholly owned subsidiary of the privately held corporation, SmartLabs, Inc., which designs, manufactures and distributes home automation products. Smarthome retails and distributes products ranging from lighting control systems and home automation, to security and surveillance, as well as, a variety of other gadgets.

"The privately held Irvine, Calif-based company started as a home automation catalog retailer in 1992." In February, 1995 SmartLabs' Smarthome joined other internet pioneers and launched its retail website, Smarthome.com. Smarthome "got into the technology development side when it acquired Home Run Automation and Compco. With its new cache of engineering talent, Smarthome launched efforts to improve home automation products by developing a new protocol and a new chip." Most recently, "SmartLabs, Inc.(TM), the world's leading authority in home control and automation, has won the AeA High Tech Award for Innovative Technology of the Year for its INSTEON(TM) wireless home control technology.
