Smart Drive 2002
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Smart Drive 2002 is a hard drive enclosure that blocks out much of the noises made by hard drives without increasing the heat too much.
[edit] Physical
The Smart Drive 2002 is all aluminum. Aluminum is excellent heat conductor and does a superb job absorbing the heat away from the hard drive. Raised fins along the top of the enclosure increase surface area and help cool the drive, while a foam lining muffles the noise. It is reported that the Smart Drive 2002 will reduce noise output by four decibels (results may vary; the more noisy the drive the larger a reduction). It fits inside a 5.25" drive enclosure. Screws are included, as is a power cable. Most reports describe the Smart Drive 2002 as well constructed.
Dimensions: 17.65cm x 14.48cm x 3.3cm (6.95in x 5.7in x 1.3in) (DxWxH)
Weight: .82 kilograms (1.8 pounds)
[edit] Heat and Sound
Generally speaking, the heat of the hard drive is raised by a statistically significant amount (several degrees). The hard drive noise is reduced by four or more decibels. The price of the Smart Drive 2002 is roughly $60 USD.
