In the fictional Star Fleet Universe as represented in the range of games from Amarillo Design Bureau Inc., the Small Magellanic Cloud is an additional regional setting, alongside the current Alpha and Omega Octants and the forthcoming Triangulum Galaxy.

The Small Magellanic Cloud is relevant to the wider Star Fleet Universe not merely due to its own unique attributes, but also to its importance before, during and after the Andromedan War.

[edit] Magellanic Background and History

Geographically, the SMC is divided into five regions:

  • The Core, a densely-populated region surrounded by a shell of intense radiation,
  • The main populated area, where the Baduvai, Eneen and other homeworlds lie,
  • The Yrol Nebula, inhabited by semi-sentient creatures and the neutral Yrol Septs.
  • The Fringe Worlds on the outer reaches of the Cloud, with low densities of inhabitable star systems,

and

  • The Chomak Cluster, a small star cluster captured by the LMC's gravitational field.

The SMC is home to a number of starfaring races, which developed similar propulsion technologies to those of the Milky Way Galaxy, but created a number of unique technologies, such as the use of warp-tuned lasers, distortion generators and a multi-layer shielding system.

However, the Magellanic races were conquered by the Andromedans as part of their eventual plans to conquer the Milky Way Galaxy.

Operation Unity, the final campaign of the Andromedan War, saw forces from the Alpha Octant of the galaxy destroy the Andromedan starbase in the Cloud, severing the invaders' supply lines from M31.

[edit] Magellanic Governments and Factions

  • The Baduvai Imperium was ruled by a race of large beaked quadrupeds, weighing an average of 1200kg. They were the least militaristic power in the LMC - which unfortunately did not include its relations with the less advanced natives of the colony world H'gar - seeking alliances with neighbouring space-faring factions if possible.
  • The Eneen Protectorates were led by the Eneen, a race of lemur-like bipeds with a keen eye for conquest in the Cloud, who were once part of the Jumokian League until they formed their own expansionist empire.
  • The Maghadim Hives were composed of a fractious race of ten-limbed anthropods, who arose in the Core and eventually sought to expand beyond its limits - when not indulging in brutal civil wars...
  • The Uthiki Harmony, a race of squid-like invertebrates who dwell in gas giants, were eventual allies of the Baduvai and were hit hard by the Andromedans in their invasion of the Cloud.
  • The Jumokian League, composed of a race of reptilian life-forms, once maintained significant trading links with neighbouring races, until the Eneen usurped their power and drove them into piracy.
  • The Chomak Community, long established in their small Cluster, generally sought to keep out of the conflicts between the other Magellanic powers, and were the last of the races to fall to the Andromedans.
  • The Yrol Septs retained a firm neutrality in Magellanic affairs, merging their ships to the indigenous space-dwelling creatures of their Nebula.
  • The Neutral Worlds was a buffer state established between the Baduvai and Eneen, with no real sovereignty of its own.
