Slovakia has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest three times, debuting in 1994 and leaving the contest in 1998. In the three contests Slovakia had a best position of 18th, and was forced to miss a year after each contest. The country opted to not return for the 2000 contest.
In January 2007, Peter Kavecky, PR manager of STV, said that Slovakia will rejoin the Eurovision family in 2008.
