[edit] Welcome

Hello Slivester, welcome to Wikipedia.

You might find these links helpful in editing pages or creating new ones: Tutorial, How to write a great article, Naming conventions, Manual of Style. You should read our policies at some point too.

But don't feel you have to read every policy document before you do anything. I see you've already done good work on Sellapan Rama Nathan. That's great - dive in, be bold in editing, and if you do anything wrong, someone will be quick to correct it and let you know (hopefully, politely!)

If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian!

You may have already noticed that you can sign your name using three tildes, like this: ~~~. If you use four, you can add a datestamp too, as I've done below. This is mostly useful, and is considered good etiquette, on talk pages. But be aware that the actual wikipedia articles should never be signed - they belong to the community, rather than the individual who created them.

Again, welcome! --ALargeElk 09:54, 20 May 2004 (UTC)

Hey Silvester!

I just realized that you were on my MSN Messenger list, but hardly chatted with you. =P Anyway, a warm welcome to Wikipedia! Hope to hear from you more often in the future! =)

Hello there, of course, hope to hear you soon!

[edit] Renaming of József Dudás' page

Hi, is there a precise reason you renamed József Dudás to Jozsef Dudas? The first one is the correct spelling in Hungarian, I think. --Orzetto 14:02, 22 July 2005 (UTC)

Hi Slivester, again on that article... I checked out this page, it's a bit unclear about accents (a bit more on the talk page however). It says that one should use the "latin translitteration", or "English name" instead of the "native spelling", but I think it refers rather to Christopher Columbus instead of Cristoforo Colombo, or Joseph Stalin instead of Iosif Stalin. While "József Dudás" contains accents that are not commonly used in English, others (like Façade, or even the recently front-page featured Căile Ferate Române) maintain the title with their original accents.

I think you understood the policy correctly, since the English Wikipedia could, until June 2005, use only latin-1 characters, but this has recently changed, and UTF-8 titles are now acceptable. I would therefore suggest moving the content to József Dudás, and keeping Jozsef Dudas as a redirect to the article. Cheers, --Orzetto 19:27, 23 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Yang di-Pertuan Negara

Why did you remove references to Sir William Goode from this article? While it may not be a source of great national pride to Singaporeans that the first person to hold the post was the last British Governor, it is a fact! See here and here

Quiensabe 2005-08-29 00:40 UTC

It is to my understanding, that the governor has little representation in this article, the article is regarding the Yang di-Perturn Negara, which has little relation with the governor as politically-corrected in 1959. As for the first Yang di-Pertuan Negara, it was indeed Sir William Goode, of which I have omitted accidentally. However, its worth to be noted that Sir William Goode was sworn in to become the first head of state before democratic election, which under contexts I have referred, do not consider Singapore the State of Singapore, but still a crown colony.
As for the correction you have made, there is no 1959 constitution, but a revised version of 1955, of which was based on the recommendations of the Renden Commission.
As for your comments, it was our honour to have Sir William Goode as our last British head of state; he had himself propagated the independence of Singapore. Slivester 09:05, 30 August 2005 (UTC)
Thank you - I have put 'revisions to the Constitution in 1959' in place of '1959 Constitution'. I think it was the Rendel Commission, and while Sir William Goode may have advocated, supported or promoted the independence of Singapore, he didn't propagate it.

Quiensabe 2005-08-29 9:27 UTC

Propagating as in extending its effects, in which was widely agreed by Singapore historians today. Maybe a vague concept, but some of the most influential historians whom I read about actually attribute "the initial" success of the full self-governance talks to Sir William Goode. [edit] Maps of Singapore

Thanks for your kind comment, I will continue to produce those locator maps. As for the local maps of Towns, it will require much more effort, but I would like to do it also if there is already a good article; SengKang and Woodlands are among the good candidates :D. But this will have to be after the locator maps are completed, a project which I'm currently neglecting. You are making very good contributions on Woodlands and cool pictures too! --Vsion 08:44, 11 September 2005 (UTC)

Slivester, I would very much like to be part of this map project, although I am not too sure where to atart. What software do you guys use, for instance?--Huaiwei 12:48, 12 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Heya

Nothing important, just asking how you found my homepage. I don't think I put it up anywhere on my userpage. :? --Miborovsky 02:53, 12 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Current events in Malaysia and Singapore

In case you havn't notice, you may wish to look at Current events in Malaysia and Singapore for your daily dose of Singaporean News Headlines, with links to wikipedia articles providing background information of these news events. Feel free to contribute too! It's not restricted to national news. Local news from Woodlands, your school, sports and cultural events are also welcomed to be listed there. --Vsion 12:50, 13 September 2005 (UTC)

I will certainly take a look at it. :) Slivester 22:27, 13 September 2005 (UTC)

I cant resist thanking you profusely for your contributions and assistance rendered in the above article. Its a shit job few want to do, and takes up alot of effort and time, but imagine its power when all these info are permanantly archived and forms our very own knowledge throve which can be referenced for the rest of our articles. I hope your contributions will be a sustained one, and lets hope more will join us in the near future! :D--Huaiwei 15:18, 22 September 2005 (UTC)

Not a problem at all, and similarily here, I hope more users do contribute, :) Slivester 15:29, 22 September 2005 (UTC)

Erm sil, while I appreciate your efforts in the above page, I have to point out that your creation of the article December 2005 in Malaysia and Singapore has frustrated the normal procedures of archiving and updating Current events in Malaysia and Singapore. The normal procedure is to move from Current events in Malaysia and Singapore to XXX 2005 in Malaysia and Singapore at the end of the month, and then edit the redirect for use in the current month. By creating and making 2 further edits in that page, it is no longer to do a page move, and I have to end up asking an admin to do the move for me.

Hope you may understand how the system works and help to do the maintainance work in future as well! ;)--Huaiwei 14:07, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hominid Emotion Deficiency

Hi, Slivester. I was looking over the article you created on Hominid Emotion Deficiency. This is a very interesting concept, but for some reason the reference link you've included isn't working, at least for me. I didn't have any luck on google with "Hominid Emotion Deficiency", and the only references I can find to a "Theodore Syndrome" are about a form of conjunctivitis, so I've added a {{verify}} tag to the page, to see if anyone else could find a source or citation to add, because articles without citations may eventually be listed for deletion. I see you speak a number of languages - are some of your references in non-english sources? If so, that would probably explain why I can't find them. Thanks! -- Vary | Talk 16:48, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

I believed its first released by in Barlonder Nederlandse by a Professor named somthing like H.R Dowrijstadt. I will sort out the sources again. Slivester 02:58, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] relicense your images

"Cannot be redistributed without permission" images aren't going to work well for Wikipedia, because of it's GFDL nature (ie. free to redistribute and sell [to recoup any costs of printing, etc.], but not public domain, BUT someone can't just modify it and claim copyright to it). I hope you relicense them, otherwise some will get unnecessarily deleted. Elle vécut heureusement toujours dorénavant (Be eudaimonic!) 09:46, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

The photos that I have uploaded are free to be redistributed, released under public domain. I am still trying to get to bottom on when in heaven does the images get listed for deletion. Thanks for the notice though. Slivester 02:43, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
Your images Image:WoodlandsNight.jpg, Image:Woodlandsday.jpg will still be deleted soon as they are orphans and not attached to any articles. Wikipedia is not an image repository so the articles need to be used or be deleted. -Thanks Nv8200p talk 00:13, 16 January 2006 (UTC)
Appreciate the notice. I believe they are previously used in Woodlands, Singapore before alternatives were selected. Thus, it should do right to be listed for deletion. Slivester 05:16, 16 January 2006 (UTC)
  • With respect to your wishes on your photoalbum userpage, I've re-tagged your collection as GFDL and removed the CC-SA license. If you also like to dual-license/license under CC/other, feel free to let me know on my talkpage. :) - Cheers, Mailer Diablo 21:14, 18 January 2006 (UTC)
Ah, thank you for that effort. I am intending to release all into public domain anyway, enough of those copyright hassles. Slivester 02:50, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:Lithuanian.ogg

Warning sign
This image may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Lithuanian.ogg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Ricky81682 (talk) 06:55, 18 January 2006 (UTC)

Technically, it was tagged for deletion on the 9th, so a week has passed but since it doesn't like you were given any real warning, I will give you a chance to keep it from deletion. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 06:57, 18 January 2006 (UTC)
Ah, and I thank you for bringing that to my attention. Slivester 15:50, 18 January 2006 (UTC)
