[edit] Controversy

this page needs some mention of controversy surrounding the slim fast diet. If anyone knows how it works, or the theory behind how it works, this should be included as well. the article also needs to be organized better, as it appears a "History" section is warranted pmoney 01:15, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

It does, and some serious NPOVing and sorting of nonsense. "containing bacteria harvested from the stomachs of slim people"! Skittle 13:10, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

I am afraid I highly disagree with you. The "bacteria" section is not nonsense. It is cited information and the product in question is in [i]research[/i]. Clearly, it said that it will not be available for another twenty years. I feel that you come from a position of ignorance in your opinion and therefore you have been hoisted by your own petard. You have commited a serious act of "POVing" yourself. The section on the bacteria was actual knowledge, something that is highly valued here at wikipedia. If you dislike knowledge and try further to sabbotage wikipedia by the continuing removal of information I will personally see to it that you are cited for vandalism. Nexusv3

Interesting use of metaphor. I assume you have this Popular Science yourself, and have the article, but I can't find any mention of slim fast on the website. Could we be more specific about where it is found, preferably providing a link if possible? I will reword the section, to avoid such a large quote. It still sounds like nonsense, but as long as it is clear that it is only what a popular science magazine is saying, that is fine. As long as we can prove they did :-) Skittle 11:27, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Scratch that. That quote doesn't mention slim fast at all! It doesn't belong here, as it is speculation on the part of wikipedians to think that slim fast will use this info. Maybe it belongs in a general slimming milkshake article, or bacteria, or weight loss. I'll leave a day for you to decide what to do, then I'll find a home for it if you haven't. Skittle 11:32, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

I looked for my copy and didn't find it. Also I personally think this small tid-bit is no longer really, you know, worth it. It won't be happening for another 20 years though so if anything develops in there, I'll be the first to add it. lol. See you around. Nexusv3

[edit] The Wikipedia is a big Joke !!!

They say they do not allow commercial sites but they have all Unilever products in Wikipedia It sucks !! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 63.228.46.33 (talk • contribs) August 16, 2006, 02:31 (UTC)

If a product warrants an article of its own, the article may have a link to its home page (if one exists). The standards for including companies and products can be found here. Kafziel 14:04, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] weight

how much weight will you lose?

According to the label, Slim Fast doesn't recommend losing more than 2 lbs per week after the first week. If you want to lose more than 30 lbs, they recommend consulting a physician. Kafziel Talk 15:23, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Slim Fast variants

The Slim Fast range has changed considerably over the years-- if I could figure out how to put this info on the page in a good, sourced manner, it'd be nice:

Slim Fast is the original (obviously) version, but has been marketed as a secondary brand to a "premium" Slaim Fast range since at least the early 90s: Ultra Slim Fast, which contained less sugar, and had aspartame. Ultra Slim Fast was discontinued after sales plummeted during the low-carb Atkins fad, and a reformulated Splenda/sugar Slim Fast Optima was introduced to reinvigorate sales. It was during the Atkins-caused downturn in sales that the brand was sold to Unilever.
