Sleepycat Software

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sleepycat Software, Inc. makes Berkeley DB, a widely used free software developer database with over 200 million deployments worldwide. Many open source projects [1] and commercial customers [2] use Berkeley DB to provide fast, local persistence with zero administration. Sleepycat has offices in California, Massachusetts and the United Kingdom.

The company was founded in 1996 to develop, support and distribute Berkeley DB. The founders were wife and husband team Margo Seltzer and Keith Bostic, who are also the original authors of Berkeley DB. Another original author, Michael Olson, is the President and CEO of Sleepycat.

As well as a proprietary license, Sleepycat software is released under a free software license known as the Sleepycat license.

In February of 2006, Sleepycat was purchased by Oracle Corporation. [3]
