[edit] History

[edit] Formation

Slappatrasta began as the hard rock quartet, The Reign Of Chaos, which consisted of John Womack, Alex Elias, Sean DiPinto, and Dylan Kebow. The band was very short-lived, and after the break-up, Sean and Dylan continued rehearing under the new name Slappatrasta. The name was formed of the band's mission statement, which is "So, like, all the people are listening to rap and stuff, and then we come and destroy it," which shortened to the acronym "Slatpaltrasatwcadi" and was then edited to Slappatrasta. The band has stated that the change was made to prevent "pronunciation problems." When asked why the name was changed from The Reign of Chaos, both Sean and Dylan have said, "That name is so gay." Also, when asked about the breakup of The Reign of Chaos, Dylan replied, "Well, John was an asshole, and he couldn't play guitar for shit, and we didn't really want to be in a band with him, so we broke up."

[edit] Members

Sean DiPinto and Dylan Kebow are the only constant members of the band. The band's MySpace page credits Dylan with "Vocals/Bass/Acoustic Guitar/Harmonica," and Sean with "Electric Guitar/Backing Vocals." However, in some songs Dylan is known to have played electric guitar, such as the rhythm guitar in "Border Patrol" and the guitar solo in "Epic Song."

[edit] Influences

Slappatrasta has stated their main influences as System of a Down and Tenacious D. They borrow much of their non-sensical ranting from System of a Down, along with their down-tuned twang electric guitar sound. Tenacious D is probably their largest influence, most prominently in their humorous lyrics, and also in their mix of acoustic and electric guitar sounds.

[edit] Style and Genre

Slappatrasta's genre and styles are often disputed, although a constant aspect of their work is the humorous lyricism that classifies them as mainly a comedy band. Their songs range in styles, including a capella, speed metal, flamenco guitar, folk rock, acoustic rock, and others.

[edit] Side Projects

The members of Slappatrasta have been and are currently involved in various side projects. Along with his solo career, Dylan Kebow is a member of White Dawn (tentative title), a trio consisting of guitarist Brian Peck, drummer Mike Moriarty, and Dylan. Dylan is also the bassist in The Laden Eclipse with guitarist Brennan Plassmeyer, vocalist Will Parsons, and drummer Tony Silvetti. Sean often plays with drummer Gabe Holguin. Both Dylan and Sean are also in the process of forming a metalcore group with drummer Eric Miller. Most recently, Dylan and Sean have formed Take Senses Back with bassist Gabe Lizarraga and vocalist Cory Ulz. Interestingly, in this band, Dylan does not play bass, guitar, or sing as usual, but is rather the drummer.
