This is a technological invention within the Clockwork Universe (Fiction)

The Sky Probe also known as SP333, is the final product derived from a series of failed engineering experiments, aimed at launching man into orbit. The probe is capsular in shape, and its exterior surface is insulated with a ceramic layer applied by the regions finest potters, that prevent it from burning up upon re-entry. Housing a mere 1 person, it is launched into orbit by a powerful steam cannon. Once in orbit, the passenger may observe the surrounding's using a high powered, multi-lenses, telescope crafted from the finest crystal. The passenger is to then illustrate his/her observations by way of lithography, and seal them in a heavy duty lockbox provided before Re-entry.
