Who were the powers that were? Michael Z. 2005-10-20 00:06 Z

There's an expression in Russian "власть предержащие", meaning "those who govern the country" or, literally, "those who hold power". I translated it as the "powers that be". You can change it to the government of Alexis I of Russia, if you want details. KNewman 01:57, 20 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Replacing tinyurl links with direct links

I did this merely as a minor matainence task; the URL is not visible in the rendered page, and having a direct URL allows readers of the page to more easily determine the site they will go to if they click on the link, rather than a tinyurl link which is opaque. There have been problems with vandals changing tinyurls to point to shock sites(I think), modifications of direct URLs are more obvious. I will not revert this(as I can't see that it matters much), but I would ask, if no comments have been made for one week, that whoever reads this do the reversion. Now that you explained your rationale, it's all right with me. --Ghirla | talk 23:42, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
