Sketchy at Best

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Sketchy at Best" was a weekly sketch comedy show produced in The Second City's Tim Sims Playhouse in Toronto, Ontario. Each week featured several guest sketch troupes and one headlining troupe. Toronto's best sketch troupes of the time performed on the show, where spots were usually hard to come by.

The show was produced by Dave Crawford, who had produced for York University's Vanier College Productions and The Vanier Improv Company, where many of the troupes featured in "Sketch at Best" cut their teeth under the tutelage of Fredrick H. Thury.

The Minnesota Wrecking Crew was formed as the show's "in-house" troupe (when Crawford needed an act, he'd call them in on short notice and they would write a set). The group consisted of members of other sketch troupes (including John Catucci of Performance Anxiety, Josh Glover of Dead Kid Did It, Mike 'Nug' Nahrgang of Nugmutter and Ron Sparks of The Gazebo Pals), and has gone on to win several Canadian Comedy Awards.
