Skee-Lo is the stage name of Antoine Roundtree, Born on March 5, 1973. a rapper who was moderately popular in the mid-1990s. He was born in Poughkeepsie, NY, and grew up in Riverside, California.

He is best known for the self-deprecating pop-rap 1995 hit single "I Wish", in which he wishes he was "a little bit taller" (Skee-Lo is 5 ft 4 in, or 1.63 m). The single and the album I Wish were both certified gold by the RIAA in 1995. Other singles released from the album were "Superman" and "Top Of The Stairs" although both were eclipsed by the success of "I Wish", which is now considered a "classic" hip hop track and appears on many rap and dance compilations.

[edit] Other works

Skee-Lo also recorded a cover of the Schoolhouse Rock! song "The Tale of Mr. Morton", which taught sentence structure (subject, verb, predicate). The song appears on the compilation album, Schoolhouse Rock! Rocks.

He also co-wrote "I'll Be Your Everything" by boy band Youngstown. The song is featured on the Inspector Gadget soundtrack.

[edit] Samples

"I Wish" contains a sample from the song "Spinnin'" by Bernard Wright. It was sampled by Les Rythmes Digitales for the song "[Hey You] What's That Sound?" (the sentences actually picked up from "For What It's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield) and is sampled on the 2 Many DJs album, As Heard On Radio Soulwax Pt. 2.
