Skanderborg municipality

Skanderborg municipality is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in Aarhus County on the Jutland peninsula in central Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 143 km², and has a total population of 22,244 (2005). Its mayor is Aleksander Aagaard, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party.

The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Skanderborg.

Neighboring municipalities are Aarhus and Odder to the east, Hørning to the north, Ry to the northwest, and Gedved to the south and southwest.

By January 1, 2007 Skanderborg municipality will, as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007), be merged with existing Galten, Ry, and Hørning municipalities, along with Voerladegård Parish from Brædstrup municipality, to form a new Skanderborg municipality. This will create a municipality with an area of 416 km² and a total population of 49,469 (2005).
