Sjernarøy

Sjernarøy is a former independent municipality in the state of Rogaland, originally a part of Hinderaa district (by Royal resolution, the name was changed to Nerstrand on August 10, 1881). Sjernarøy became a separate municipality when Hinderaa municipality was divided on January 1, 1868. At that point Sjernarøy had 922 inhabitants.

On January 1, 1965 Sjernarøy joined Fisterøyene (The Fister islands) in Fister, a part of Jelsa, and Finnøy municipality to form the new municipality known as Finnøy. At that time Sjernarøy had 819 inhabitants.

Sjernarøy consist of several small and larger islands: Kyrkjøy, Bjergøy, Eriksholmen, Tjul, Hestholmen, Aubø, Helgøy and Nord-Talgje.
