[edit] Membership Required?
Do nominees have to be members of Esperanza? --TantalumTelluride 05:01, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
-
- Only judges need to be members of Esperanza! KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 09:57, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Award
Hi, mind if I helped out with the image design? :) Here's a similar version of the current award with a transparent background. Any thoughts? Thanks, Sango123 (talk) 22:07, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
- That's nice, especially w/o the blue background. smurrayinchester(User), (Talk) 22:09, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
- That gets my vote! ➨ ❝REDVERS❞ 22:16, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
- If I may point out this is not a barnstar per se. It just uses a barnstar as a guideline for the design. As of right now it shouldn't be awarded as a barnstar unless a user has won the actual award.KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 00:51, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
Support that/ Ian13|talk 18:17, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
- NightStallion, Banes, Rune.welsh and myself were thinking of adding our sigs to the barnstar, we instead just added it to the template which you can view on in the award section on the project page. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 12:06, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
- Hmmm, and I had created two other variants...The blue background was a special request by Banes; my original intent was the clear background. My two variants from today are on either side of this post. Essjay Talk • Contact 22:03, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
- Well, they look better than the plain blue. Would it be possible to get rid of the white pixels around the Esperanza logo in Star-5 (which I think looks better)? smurrayinchester(User), (Talk) 22:24, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
- With the gradiant background they look rather nice! I really like the one to the left, with the "E@" at a larger size. -- Natalya 12:32, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Halibutt's nomination
Thank you, ladies and gentlemen, it's very kind of you. There's a huge "but" however: the layout of my user page was prepared by User:Blankfaze (as can be seen in the disclaimer at the bottom of my user page. The layout is really great and several people have adopted it after me (User:Piotrus for instance), but if anyone is to be awarded for it then you should contact Blankfaze :) Halibutt 20:25, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
- Mine is styled upon FireFox's beta style on his page. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sceptre (talk • contribs).
[edit] Maybe
...you should have made this programme more public. As apparently few people outside (and not even all people inside) Esperanza know about this, a "rival" project has recently sprung up. Should probably merge this somehow. —Nightstallion (?) 14:24, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] A Big Thank You
Goes out to everyone who participated in this project, the ones who proposed ideas on talk pages, thank you for giving us a foundation to base this project on. To the judges and the nominees' we hope to see you participate again. A very special thank you goes out to Essjay, Sango123, for creating the award. Also to Celestianpower for approving this project. A big thank you to my co-organizer's Banes, and Rune.welsh. I hope to see you all next week :-D. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 17:39, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
- Don't forget to thank yourself! Or we can just do that for you. :) Well done! -- Natalya 18:50, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Just being nomination-worthy is flatering
So what are the rules? I have some funny stuff in page history (which I removed for no real reason) and I want to restore those, is that allowed? :) --Cool CatTalk|@ 23:11, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
- If you want to, but do it soon, before the user pages are assigned to a judge. -- Rune Welsh | ταλκ 00:35, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] About being bold and all that
While I certainly appreciate the enthusiasm with which this project has been received, I feel compeled to kindly ask everyone who follows this to discuss things before making any changes to the page. Please understand that Banes, KoS and myself are still trying to iron out some issues in order to make this process as smooth as possible for everyone. Changing things out of the blue may create more confusion than already exists, specially if the overseers themselves are not aware of those changes... :P
The three of us are very open to suggestions and commentary, as some of you may already know from talking to us both on IRC and on-wiki. We are extremely pleased that everyone is so eager to support this project and make it a success. But please, leave us some breathing room :)
I may be jumping the gun a bit, and if so I apologise in advance. Thank you for your understanding. -- Rune Welsh | ταλκ 00:35, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
- Dear Rune, regarding your message above, I've just noticed that there currently is no space for this week's judges to list their favorites, as last week results are still occupying the section that was created with that purpose. I've been slapping my hands to create a proper subsection so the new finalists can be listed, but considering your request, I'll let you guys handle it... ;) Phædriel ♥ tell me - 14:47, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Achille
Achille has completely deleted his user-page, so even the permanant link doesn't work anymore. I guess he should be removed from the list... smurrayinchester(User), (Talk) 15:02, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
- Sucky. I wonder why he left. (And it was a really cool-looking userpage. Le sigh.) --Fang Aili 15:33, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
- It looks to me like he left a message on his user page about going on a wikibreak on the 5th....why he wanted his page deleted the next day though is the real question...KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 15:56, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Is my page that bad?
Not only did I have to nominate my own page, but I didn't even place this week. I'm a little surprised, because I always though I had a very nice user page. What was it missing? – ClockworkSoul 13:51, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I was going to nominate you last week, but you were on Wikibreak, so I decided to leave it. It's a nice page, so don't feel insulted. Maybe your judge just didn't particularly like orange, or you were up against an even better page. Quite a few pages that look nice ultimately fail to get through. Angela's, Nightstallion's, Halibutt's etc. smurrayinchester(User), (Talk) 15:13, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
- It seems to me that the current arrangement of the voting system isn't especially well suited to filtering out "anomolies"... perhaps it may be worth putting some time towards rethiking it? It maight be more work, but it could be a bit more fair... Just a thought. – ClockworkSoul 15:16, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
-
- I like your page. I like orange too :) Renata 16:37, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you. :) I actually used those colors as the basis of the Coffee Roll template color scheme. – ClockworkSoul 16:39, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
- I like your page. I like orange too :) Renata 16:37, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
Hehe, this was bound to happen at some point... Judging criteria are mostly subjective anyways, specially by allowing different people to sign up every week. Remember that ultimately this contest is just for fun. And you can always nominate your page again. -- Rune Welsh | ταλκ 18:54, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
- Nah. I'll just wait for somebody else to do it. If it's worth it, it'll happen on its own. – ClockworkSoul 19:33, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
I like Clockwork's page; as I said on my talk, it was the first page I saw that made me want to figure out how to make mine look better. (And I say that as a vehement opponent to the color oragnge; anybody remember my ranting over the "orange bar of death"?) Essjay Talk • Contact 21:48, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
- It's more of a "khaki" and "goldenrod"; at least that's what my wife says... In real life, I chose those colors for the beer project infoboxen, and I like them so much that I recycled them in my user page. – ClockworkSoul 23:59, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
-
- I'll nominate you myself in the next round. In the mean time, I would fix the middle column so it is of similar length as the 1st and 3rd one. Renata 01:57, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Nominations
Is there a mistake on the nominations? The banner saying noms must be after the 10th Feb at 12:00 UTC was added after that date. smurrayinchester(User), (Talk) 18:14, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
What comes of not looking at a calendar. Banez 19:50, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Judges who are late
I've discussed this briefly on IRC, with Banes and Rune_welsh, and now I'd like to get more feedback. If a judge for whatever reason, is late with sending in their scores, be it RL has gotten to hetic, or s/he forgets about it :). I've proposed that a new judge be assigned after X amount of time, if the judge fails to send in their scores. Any thoughts, questions, comments, or suggestions are very much welcome. KnowledgeOfSelf 03:37, 24 February 2006 (UTC)
- Would that kind of go along similarly to the way the User Page Nominator positions goes? Sounds like a good plan, that way things will not get held up too much. -- Natalya 05:33, 24 February 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not sure I understand your question... I think you are asking if the UPA nominator does not submit nominations in time, they to can be replaced. But this does give me an idea: If judge Y does not submit a final score by X time, then the UPA nominator gets to be the the new judge be default. KnowledgeOfSelf 05:46, 24 February 2006 (UTC)
- Not quite what I was thinking, but I think the idea got around eventually. :) What I meant to ask was, would the Alternate Judge be assigned similarly to the way the User Page Nominator is assigned (and the position would be similarly nullified when/if all the judges returned their scores)? No matter though, your idea of having the User Page Nominator replace the judge is a good one. The only problem might arise if the User Page Nominator ended up having to nominate pages and then also had to judge - I don't know if this is actively not allowed (doesn't seem to be by the rules), but it might not be the most desiarable option. -- Natalya 06:15, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

- I think it works out great Natalya! There is a rule about judges not nominating pages though, so maybe we should make a "6th judge" spot just in case, but it is very likely that they would not get to do anything, but you never know. I do hope to get this implemented very soon. KnowledgeOfSelf 00:33, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
Or to simplify the process, just ignore the late judge and announce the winner according to the scores given by the other 4 judges. Renata 01:41, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
- That would work well if the five finalists had been chosen, but if the judge was late choosing a finalist, there would still be one more finalist needed to be picked. -- Natalya 04:08, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Announcing
I though it belonged to WP:CBB so I put it in. Please feel to remove if you disagree. Renata 22:06, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
