Thank you ... plus

Thank you for helping me on my talk page. I've responded to it and left an additional question. I'm new at this and want to do it right, I would appreciate your looking at it. Brad Fregger

Thank you,

Bradfregger 17:40, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

Sorry.

Hi. I saw the note you left on my talk page asking me to take a look at your post on the technical section of the Villiage Pump. I took a look but I'm not sure I can help you as I haven't used Firefox and am not having problems viewing the page Leicester City F.C.. If I knew how to help you I would. Maybe you could try asking at the reference desk? They helped me when my wireless keyboard went berserk and I couldn't log in or edit or type a coherant e-mail or anything. ~ ONUnicorn (Talk / Contribs) 14:19, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

Firefox/M.E. shows Leicester City F.C. as blank page

Hi Siva1979, continuing from Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#Experiencing_some_problems:

  • After the blank page finishes loading, can you select anything?
  • Can you "select all" and paste into notepad?
  • Does "completely blank" mean that even the Wikipedia logo, headers, etc. aren't there?
  • Here's a more obvious one: What does View | Page Source show?

EncMstr 05:42, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

I'm stumped. I compared the HTML of your archives 9 and 10 for something different from a browser perspective. I'm running on Firefox 2.0 (now, before was 1.5.0.7) on Windows XP pro—don't have ME. Both seem to be respectably complex HTML. The only difference I noticed is that archive 10 had this peculiar HTML comment:

<!--
Pre-expand include size: 2199 bytes
Post-expand include size: 873 bytes
Template argument size: 180 bytes
Maximum: 2048000 bytes
-->

It looks like a comment from the wikimedia servers concerning template transclusion. But all these pages have a generous quantity of template text. Why does it appear in some cases, but not others? No idea.

Your last comment about loading from the link on my page vs. another way makes me wonder if your browser's cache is a factor. How about trying to clear it?

  1. Tools | Clear Private Data...
  2. Make sure "cache" is checked
  3. Clear Private Data Now
  4. directly display http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leicester_City_F.C.

Is your system otherwise reliable? — EncMstr 07:06, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

Interesting behavior. How much free disk space is there on that system? — EncMstr 07:53, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

69% is great. It shouldn't be a problem until it gets down to like 10 to 50 Mb free. (You're at 13.8 Gb free—13,800 Mb—69% of 20Gb). Maybe the filesystem needs repair? Does ME have scandisk? — EncMstr 18:40, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

Norwich City F.C.

I think you're mistaken. In British English we would say "are" for the team, but not for the club, which is how the text is currently written. Consider "are a team" v "is a club". Both are right. "Are a club" is wrong. --Dweller 08:53, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

Your correct at the PNE page is spot on. Cheers, --Dweller 18:58, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
Siva: I'm afraid your edits appear to contradict your talk page postings at Gillingham F.C. and others. You acknowledge that is works better than are for the singular noun club, and yet you are making changes to render the text XXX football club are .... I have reverted this on the Gillingham page, in keeping with your own admission.Kevin McE 20:40, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

Thank you

Thank you for your support on my recent RfA. I had reconsidered and was waiting for either you or Crazyrussian to offer again, but I wasn't going to ask, as I feel that one should never campaign for adminship. Now that I have some fancy new buttons, if I can ever be of any help, do not hesitate to let me know.

BTW, I would have to check this out, but I am pretty sure that you are the most accomplished of all of the Wikipedians that I have welcomed. Cheers. youngamerican (ahoy hoy) 14:59, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

Don't get yourself down, being an admin is not how I gauge the quality of the Wikipedian and it shouldn't be how you judge others, either. Keep on truckin'. youngamerican (ahoy hoy) 23:46, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

Small favor

Hey Siva, I was wondering of you could help me out with getting votes for expanding an article I started a while back. My old US Australia relations article is currently being considered for expansion by the Wikipedia:Australian Collaboration of the Fortnight. To vote, go here and scroll to the bottom.

Thanks man! Sharkface217 05:04, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

November Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
The last AC meeting (full log)
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.

If I'm a bit pale in the face now,
it's because of the amazing support
during my recent request for adminship
and because of all those new shiny buttons.

And if in the future
my use of them should not always be perfect
please don't hesitate to shout at me
any time, sunset, noon or sunrise.

RfA thanks

Hi Siva, and thanks for your participation at the recent RfA, which did not succeed. For those of you who expressed their support, your kind words and your trust are sincerely appreciated. For those who were opposed --especially those who offered their constructive criticism-- please accept this message as assurance that equally sincere efforts, aimed at enhancing the quality and accuracy of representations within the Wikipedia, will continue. Striving for improved collaboration and consensus will also continue, with all of your insights in mind, while applying NPOV ideals as fairly and reasonably as possible. Hi Siva, thanks a lot for your support and kind words to my recent RFA. You are a very prolific editor with lots of edits and barnstars under your belt! Its great to know that you have such trust in me. I hope I will not disappoint you. Please let me know if I can be of assistance to you. My RfA:

Thank you so very much for voting support in my RfA. However, I have withdrawn due to reasons that a stressed user would withdraw under. I'm sorry I have failed you & your expectations. Thanks, Spawn Man 09:01, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

Category:Football (soccer) clubs established in xxxx

Hi Siva, I noticed your post on the WP:Football page and agree with your idea for a new category for football clubs. I helped move many of the articles to the Sports clubs established in xxxx category, so I can help move them to these new categories as well. It's a big job, but I'll be moving them as I have the time to help. Keep on coming up with great ideas. Jogurney 04:08, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

I assure you I'll continue to serve the project to the very best of my ability and strive to use the admin tools in a wise and fair manner. Please do let me know if I can be of assistance and especially if you spot me making an error in future. Many thanks once again. Yours, Rockpocket 06:43, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for the extra feathers on my wings!

Thank you so much, Siva1979, for your support in my RfA, which passed on November 11, 2006, with a final tally of 82/0/2. Hi Siva1979, and thanks very much for your support during my recent RfA, which succeeded with a final tally of 64/0/0. I am grateful for the overwhelming support I received from the community, and hope I will continue to earn your trust as I expand my participation on Wikipedia. It goes without saying that if you ever need anything and I can help, please let me know. Wait, I guess it does go with saying. ; ) --cholmes75 (chit chat) 15:27, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Mike's RfA Thanks
Siva1979: Thanks very much for your support at my RfA. Unfortunately, it was clear that no consensus was going to be reached, and I have withdrawn the request at a final tally of 31/17/5. Regardless, I really appreciate your confidence in me. Despite the failure, rest assured that I will continue to edit Wikipedia as before. If all goes well, I think that I will re-apply in January or February. - Mike | Talk 04:41, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your input!

Thank you for taking part in my RfA. The RfA was not successful, mostly because I did a pretty bad job of presenting myself. I'll run again sometime in the next few months, in the hopes that some will reconsider.

In the meantime, one of the projects I'm working on is A Wikimedia Administrator's Handbook. This is a wikibook how-to guide intended to help new administrators learn the ropes, as well as to simply "demystify" what adminship entails. If you are an administrator, please help out with writing it, particularly on the technical aspects of the tools. Both administrators and non-administrators are welcome to help link in and sort all of the various policies regarding the use of these tools on wikipedia in particular (as well as other projects: for example, I have almost no experience with how things work on wiktionary or wikinews). Users who are neither familiar with policy or the sysop tools could be of great help by asking questions about anything that's unclear. The goal is to get everything together in one place, with a narrative form designed to anticipate the reader's next question.

A second project, related but not entailed, is a book on wikimedia in general, with a history of how various policies evolved over time, interesting trivia (e.g., what the heck was "wikimoney" about?), and a history of how the wikimedia foundation itself came about and the larger issues that occurred during its history (such as the infamous "Spanish Fork").

Again, thanks for your input on the RfA, and thanks in advance for any help you might be able to provide for the handbook. --SB_Johnny|talk|books 14:34, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

My RfA

My RfA passed with a tally of 71/1/0. Thank you very much for your support. I hope that my performance as an admin will not disappoint you. Please let me know if you see me doing anything inappropriate. -- Donald Albury 02:34, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

Shiny new buttons

Two weeks ago I couldn't even spell administratur and now I are one (in no small part thanks to your support). Now that I checked out those new buttons I realize that I can unleash mutant monsters on unsuspecting articles or summon batteries of laser guns in their defense. The move button has now acquired special powers, and there's even a feature to roll back time. With such awesome new powers at my fingertips I will try to tread lightly to avoid causing irreversible damage and getting into any wheel wars. Thanks again and let me know whenever I can be of use.

Adminship

What are you waiting for?
Siva1979: This boy would like to nominate you for adminship (for the fourth time). If Siva1979 is interested, please contact the boy. a page will be created soon.--Tdxiang 03:26, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

I suggest it is too soon. Your last RfA finished as Final (69/34/6) Ended 20:41, 2006-08-22 That is less than three months ago. Given this would be your fourth attempt I would say wait until new year at the earliest. People often get oppose votes for coming back too soon, appearing too eager. In your current circumstances patience is critical. Review the RfA for HighwayCello if you are not convinced by my argument. Also on your editor review the first comment you received echoed this sentiment. David D. (Talk) 04:21, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

RFA Thanks

Thanks!
Thanks for your input on my (nearly recent) Request for adminship, which regretfully achived no consensus, with votes of 68/28/2. I am grateful for the input received, both positive and in opposition, and I'd like to thank you for your participation.

RfA Thanks

Thank you for the Support

I'd like to express my huge thanks to you, Siva1979, for your support in my recent RfA, which closed with 100% support at 71/0/1. Needless to say, I am very suprised at the huge levels of support I've seen on my RfA, and at the fact that I only had give three answers, unlike many other nominees who have had many, many more questions! I'll be careful with my use of the tools, and invite you to tell me off if I do something wrong! Thanks, Martinp23 14:40, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your support!

A week ago I nominated myself, hoping to be able to help Wikipedia as an administrator as much as a WikiGnome. I am very glad many others shared my thoughts, including you. Thank you for your trust! Be sure I will use these tools to protect and prevent and not to harass or punish. Should you feel I am overreacting, pat me so that I can correct myself. Thanks again! Orphaned fair use image (Image:0,,10366~2841416,00.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:0,,10366~2841416,00.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Hi Siva. Just a quick note to say that if you move an RfA page for consistency or whatever, also change the transclusion on WP:RFA (see here), otherwise Tangobot and the RFA report breaks [1]. Cheers. -- Steel 19:01, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
