Sivand

Sivand is a village near Shiraz, Iran, best known for nearby Sivand Dam. Sivand is home to the Sivandi language which is a Central Iranian language lying like an island in a sea of Persian-speakers. Number of Sivandi speakers is estimated at 6,800 persons. most of sivands present inhabitants are gardeners and middle-class farmers. The population of sivand shrunk from 6,000 to 200 from 1950 as most of it's people migrated to cities to study in the university. A number of them are now living in Europe and the U.S. Sivand is located in the sivand valley. Sivand has a semiarid climate with steppes. The weather in winters is dry and cold with slight snowfall.
