Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati

The Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati were founded in October 1829 on a model of Elizabeth Ann Seton, who founded the first community of religious women, native to the United States. Four Sisters of Charity were sent to Cincinnati, Ohio to operate the school at Saint Peter's Church at Sycamore Street, the Sisters also operated an orphanage for girls.

In 1852 the order had intended to affiliate with the Daughters of Charity, but many sisters' opposed this and lobbied successfully to become their own entity. The Sisters founded Seton High School and in 1920 the Sisters founded the College of Mount St. Joseph in Delhi, the first Catholic college for women in Hamilton County, Ohio.
