[edit] Secret moves

  • Dead End Symphony: Sorrento's signature technique, he plays a song on his flute, which weakens his opponent, to the point that they are unable to fight back. The music directly resonates within the opponent's brain, meaning that even if he couldn't hear the song, he would still be affected. Although it mainly targets the mind, the Dead End Symphony could cause direct physical damage as well, as Sorrento was able to shatter Shun's Nebula Chain and Cloth with only music alone.
  • Dead End Climax: once Sorrento reaches the climax of his song, the music he plays would kill his opponent by destroying their mind
  • Circular Barrier (anime only): Sorrento draws an imaginary circle with his flute, which becomes a physical shield able to protect him from attacks
  • Sound Waves (anime only): Sorrento moves his arm in a sword-like fashion and releases powerful sound waves that are able to knock down his opponents.

[edit] Poseidon's Messenger

Before he became one of Poseidon's warriors, Sorrento was a symphony major playing flute at an university. Upon Poseidon's awakening, Sorrento was summoned by the power of Poseidon to become the Siren Marina Shogun, one of Poseidon's seven Sea Generals.

His first appearance varies slightly (but are similar in some respect) in the manga and anime. In the manga version, Sorrento was sent to kill the injured Bronze Saints in the hospital after the fight in the Sanctuary chapter. Sorrento encountered Taurus Gold Saint Aldebaran, who was sent by Athena to protect the Bronze Saints. However, Aldebaran was no match for the enchanted music from Sorrento's flute, even after he self damaged his ear drums so that he is unable to hear the music. As he was about to be killed defending the hospitalized Bronze Saints, Saori showed up and requested Sorrento to take her to see Julian/Poseidon. Later Sorrento revealed that when Saori "requested" Sorrento to take her to see Poseidon, it was like a gentle command that he could not refuse, a request from a true goddess. While he is one of Poseidon's Marina Shoguns, he had great respect for Athena from this encounter.

In anime version, he was shown as the Poseidon messenger, who gave Asgard guardian Hilda the Nibelung ring. Sorrento revealed himself toward the end of Asgard Chapter, and fought with Alpha Star Dubhe Siegfried (who now realises that Hilda was under Poseidon's manipulation). Siegfried (already injured battling with the Bronze Saints) could not over come Sorrento's "Dead End Syphony" (music from the flute), even after he pierced his ear drums so that he is unable to hear the music. Realizing that the only way to defeat Sorrento is to self sacrifice himself, Siegfried grabbed onto Sorrento and was going to kill them both by ascent into the space. However, Sorrento was able to free himself by projecting a demon fairy image to shock Siegfried, and then playing his song to weaken Siegfried, and causes Siegfried to release his bind on him.

[edit] Sorrento against Shun

Sorrento is a loyal servant of Poseidon, believing in Poseidon's great power in cleansing the world would lead to the good of mankind. As guardian of the Pillar of the South Atlantic Ocean, Sorrento faced Andromeda Shun in battle. Andromeda Shun was also no match for Siren Sorrento's techniques, being crippled by the power of Sorrento's Dead End Symphony. However, he was interrupted when both heard the prayer of Athena, trapped in the Main Breadwinner. Shun decides to use "Rolling Defense" which can block out any sound wave by repelling air away, but Sorrento used his music to destroy Shun's Cloth and Nebula Chains. Shun, stripped of his Cloth, uses Nebula Stream to restrict Sorrento's movement, making him unable to play his flute. Knowing that upon using his full power, the Nebula Stream becomes the Nebula Storm, and would kill Sorrento, Shun asked him to surrender. Sorrento, telling him that Poseidon's generals would never beg for mercy to an enemy, continues to play the "Dead End Climax." Shun had no choice but to use Nebula Storm to defeat Sorrento.

[edit] The Siren's Realization

Although Sorrento was thought to be dead, he actually survived this attack. When the final Marina Shogun, Seadragon Kanon, revealed the plan he started 13 years ago to manipulate Poseidon into starting the war with Athena, Sorrento realised that all of the Marina Shoguns were only pawns used by Kanon to achieve his goal of world domination. Seeing that it was wrong to awaken Poseidon at this time, he helps Phoenix Ikki destroy the Pillar of the North Atlantic Ocean. After Kanon reveals that the jar that Athena used to seal Poseidon is kept in the Main Breadwinner, Ikki leaves, telling Kanon that there is no need for him to fight him anymore. Sorrento also leaves, commenting that he originally believed that Poseidon would be the god to bring a new era to mankind, but now he realizes that Athena is the true goddness that can bring peace to the world. It was her merciful love to the world of men that moved his heart.

After Poseidon was defeated and sealed, Sorrento encountered Julian Solo (no longer with the spirit of Poseidon) again. Though they became friends, Julian doesn't remember their previous meeting. He accompanied Julian to use the power of his music to bring joy to the victims who suffered from the global natural disasters caused by Poseidon's awakening.

His final appearance was in the Hades arc. Julian Solo remembers who he is, and comments on the war between Athena and Hades at the moment. Sorrento was surprised that the spirit of Poseidon was not sealed completely in Julian. He then wishes the Bronze Saints good luck.

[edit] Trivia

  • During the fight with Shun, Sorrento revealed some of his other techniques besides the "Dead End Symphony" and "Dead End Climax". For example, he used his flute to create a circular shield in front of him to block and deflect Andromeda Shun's chain attack, and raised one of his arms in a motion like Shura's "Excalibur" to create sound wave attacks. However, both of these are only seen in the anime, and neither appeared in the manga.
  • The method that Taurus Aldebaran used to defend himself in the manga version was exactly the same method used by Alpha Dubhe Siegfried in the anime version, neither of whom succeeded
  • The person that attacked and defeated Taurus Aldebaran in the anime version was Mizar Zeta Syd.
  • Out of the 7 Marina Shoguns, Sorrento was the only survivor besides Kanon and Mermaid Tetis.
  • Sorrento is one of the strongest Marina Shoguns, being able to easily defeat Taurus Aldebaran. Because Kanon indeed, is not an original Marina Shogun.
  • Sorrento was born in Austria, a country famous for its musical arts and home of the great musician Mozart.
  • He is probably named after the coastal city of Sorrento in Italy.
  • Ironically Sorrento is the only Mariner General who was born in a landlocked country (a country with no direct access to sea or ocean), Austria.
