A noted London politician,David Davies,however was born in the little market town of Tregaron on 20th December 1870.His father John Davies was a smallhoder living at Ty'nycae.,a few miles outside the town in Ceredigion,West Wales
Why did he leave the Teifi Valley? Like many of his contemporaries he left the Teify Valley to work in the city as a deliverer of milk and he became highly successful,and the first holder of London Retail Dairymen's Association. Involvement in Local Government. He also immersed himself in local government,being elected as a Councillor on St Pancras Council from 1900 to 1906,and then an Alderman from 1906 to 1945.In 1911-12 he was the Mayor of tnhe Borough of St Pancras.From 1912 to 1922 David Davies was a Councillor on the London City Council and an Alderman from 1922 to 1938. His Allegiance. Though he came from a humble background David Davies identified himself with the Tories,and he served diligently as Chairman of the South East St Pancras Conservative Party from 1917 till 1944.He was made a Sir in 1938 and also served as a magistrate.He was elected a governor for life of the Royal Free Hospital. Family. David Davies married in 1897 a Mary Ann,daughter of Abraham Edwards,Tymawr,Eglwysfach.One son was born to them and three daughters. Sir David Davies died on 25 April,1958.
