Sir Anthony Abdy, 2nd Baronet

Sir Anthony Abdy, (1655-2 April 1704), an English landowner, was the eldest surviving son and heir of Sir Thomas Abdy (1612-86). He was baptised on 4 July 1655 and educated at Trinity College, Cambridge, where he was admitted as a Fellow Commoner in 1672. He succeeded his father as 2nd baronet of Felix Hall in Essex on 14 January 1686. On 9 June 1682 he married Mary (who died on 18 August 1744), daughter and heiress of Rev. Dr. Richard Milward, canon of St George's Chapel, Windsor and rector of Great Braxted in Essex. Sir Anthony and Mary had thirteen children: five sons (Thomas, who died young; Sir Anthony Thomas Abdy (1688-1733); Sir William Abdy (1689-1750); Charles (b.1693) and Richard (b. 1694)) and eight daughters (Joanna (1686-1765); Elizabeth (b. 1687); Rachel (b. 1690); Alice (b. 1695); Margaret (1696-1779); Martha (1700-1780); Anna (d. 1738) and Mary (b. circa 1703). Sir Anthony died on 2 April 1704 and was buried at Kelvedon in Essex, where he is commemorated by a monument designed by Edward Stanton.
