It is a city in Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh state.It is at the border of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. It is situated on the bank of Rihand dam (Dam is situated partially in Madhya Pradesh and partially in Uttar Pradesh). Local people call it Urjadhani, it means "capital of energy"; because it has coal mines and power plants. It produces considerable amount of enegy and fuel in the country. It is strategically suitable for power plants and contributes to 2/3 of the total power generation of Madhya Pradesh.

It is well connected with Rewa (265 KM) in Madhya Pradesh and Varanasi (200 KM) in Uttar Pradesh by road. By rail it has direct connectivity with Howrah, Dhanbad, Jabalpur (352 KM), Bhopal (684 KM), Lucknow (500 KM), Allahabad (300 KM), Bareilly, Patna, Gaya. Nearest airport is Varanasi (200 KM). It has two Bus Stand, one is Waidhan and another is Morwa (Near Singrauli Railway Station).

It is new city and it has diverse culture because people from different parts of the county came for livelihood, and contributing to cultural diversity. It has municipal corporation for the development activities, session court, government hospital, tehsil office, office of City Supritendent of Police (CSP), office of Additional District Magistrate (ADM).
