Sinistrals

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Sinistrals are a group of four evil gods from the Lufia series of video games. Their base is the Fortress Of Doom but they usually do battle with the heroes atop the many towers of the world. The Sinistrals are Gades, Amon, Erim, and Daos. There is a fifth, Sir Arek, but not much is said about him.

[edit] The Sinistrals

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

[edit] Gades

Gades is the Sinistral of Destruction. He has a tendency to gloat and talk condescendingly about the humans, stating that they are the most inferior race of all. He is the most obnoxious, impatient, and impetuous of the Sinistrals, always seeking to destroy a town, building, or anything at every chance he gets. Gades is all brawn and brute force.

  • Spiritual Force of Destruction (Lufia III)

[edit] Amon

Amon is the Sinistral of Chaos. He revels in taking control of powerful or highly influential humans to manipulate them into doing his bidding. Amon is confident in his abilities, and takes his job much more seriously than his brother Gades, who tends to play around with the opposition. He wields a golden trident to match his golden armor.

Amon's Special Moves

  • Chaos Wave (Lufia II)
  • Galactic Lancer (Lufia II)
  • Spiritual Force of Chaos (Lufia III)
  • Sunder (Lufia I)

[edit] Erim

Erim is the Sinistral of Death. In the first game, it is revealed that she was actually Lufia herself, though she suffered from amnesia and was not able to remember any of her past life. Eventually, the other Sinistrals were able to recover her memory, but she later rebelled against her brothers and defeated them along with the hero and his friends at the cost of permanently losing all of her memories. In Lufia 2 she assumed the identity of Iris, a mysterious woman who helped Maxim and his friends along the way during their journey. However, these acts of salvation were a ruse to lure the heroes into a trap, not because of wickedness, but in order to fulfill certain prophecies. In Lufia III, Erim was actually Seena, one of the main characters and the Hero's target of affection. She disguised herself so she could find friends strong enough to kill her, as she could no longer bear the existence of a Sinistral. Erim plays a major role in the story, as she usually appears to have some sort of connection with the Hero's lover. As long as Erim lives, the other Sinistrals are able to resurrect themselves.

Erim's Special Moves

  • Devastation Wave (Lufia II)
  • Dark Fry (Lufia II)
  • Thunder (spell)(Lufia II) (dummied out)

[edit] Daos

Daos is the Sinistral of Terror. He is the leader and by far the most powerful. He shrouds his form in a large red-orange robe. Daos has magical and physical might that exceeds those of the other Sinistrals. He, like Amon, is a master tactician and strives to dominate the humans.

Daos' Special Moves

  • Terror Wave (Lufia II)
  • Dark Reflector (Lufia II)
  • Dark Fry (Lufia II)
  • Firebird (Lufia III)
  • Thunder Dragon (Lufia III)
  • Mirror (Lufia III)
  • Spiritual Force of Terror (Lufia III)

[edit] Guard Daos

Guard Daos is a fusion of Gades, Amon, and Daos joining together, culminating all the abilities into one supreme being. He appears at the end of Lufia I as the final boss, and near the end of Lufia III, as the first boss of the Tower of Twilight.

[edit] Trivia

Sir Arek in the opening of Lufia II.
Sir Arek in the opening of Lufia II.
  • Sir Arek is hardly mentioned by any of the Sinistrals, nor does he appear in any of the games, except briefly in the opening scene for Lufia II. It appears, however, that he might be the most powerful of the Sinistrals, since he, as Erim implies in Lufia II, masterminded all of the events regarding the heroes and their adventure in certain ways.
  • In all 3 games, all minor bosses surpass Gades (HP&MP wise) after his defeat, and all major bosses completely outclass him. This implies that Gades is not only the weakest Sinistral, but one of the weakest enemies in the game.
  • In the first game, Daos is the Sinistral of Chaos, and Amon is the Sinistral of Terror. They seemingly "switched jobs" in the other two games.
  • Gades is always the first Sinistral the heroes fight with. He can be beaten on the first encounter, though doing so is difficult. If defeated in Lufia II, the player will receive the Gades Blade, a sword that raises "Attack Power" by 200.
  • The Sinistrals can only truly be killed by the legendary Dual Blade, which can only be wielded by Maxim and his descendants.
  • Daos causes more sadness than he does Terror, as none of the people in the games are actually shown to fear him.
  • At the end of the First Doom Island War, all four Sinistrals attempted to merge into one. Because Maxim and the original heroes prevented this fusion from occurring, Guard Daos with the inclusion of Erim is yet to be witnessed by players.
