Single replacement reaction
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A single replacement reaction is where chemical X takes the place of chemical Y or Z in the compound: YZ. The reaction would look like this: X + YZ → XY + Z or X + YZ → XZ + Y. In the first reaction, X replaces Y. In the second reaction, X replaces Z. For example, Zn + 2HCl → ZnCl2 + H2.
