"Sing for Absolution" is a song by English rock band Muse from their third studio album, Absolution. It was released in May 2004 as the fourth single from that album, peaking at #16 in the UK Singles Chart (see 2004 in British music). The song also appears on the Absolution Tour DVD. A live acoustic version of the song serves as a B-side for the "Butterflies and Hurricanes" single.
The promotional video was shot by David Slade and it depicts a future planet, probably a New Earth on which humans have settled. Muse are on a rocket heading into space. The rocket collides with an asteroid and crashes on an orange desolate planet, speculated to be Mars or Earth in the distant future. As the camera zooms out, the Houses of Parliament,and Big Ben in London can be seen as ruins. This would tie in with frontman Matt Bellamy's theories that humanity originated on Mars but left after a devastating conflict to inhabit Earth.
