Sinapyl alcohol, also called sinapoyl alcohol or 4-(3-hydroxy-1-propenyl)-2,6-dimethoxy-phenol, is a phytochemical, one of the monolignols. It is synthetized via the phenylpropanoid biochemical pathway. When polymerized, sinapyl alcohol forms lignin or lignans.
Sinapyl alcohol is also a precursor for biosynthesis of stilbene and coumarin.
