Simple Dreams was the most successful of Linda Ronstadt's studio albums, spending five weeks at number one on the Billboard album charts and finally debunking Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours" from the top spot in 1977, not to mention the competition from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. The album was such a success that Ronstadt became the first artist since The Beatles to have two singles in the top five at the same time, "Blue Bayou" and "It`s So Easy". The album countinues her tradition of including songs by Warren Zevon, Eric Kaz and JD Souther. Her treatment of the material is more laid-back than in her previous albums, probably as a nod to the Eagles who had formerly been her backup and were now at the peak of their fame with Hotel California. An exception to this is her inclusion of Mick Jagger's "Tumbling Dice", an unlikely choice that Ronstadt managed to sneak into the Top 40. While far from being her best album, "Simple Dreams" elevated Ronstadt to a superstar status only then known by very few, such as Led Zeppelin, the Bee Gees amd the Eagles themselves.
