Simon Williams (actor)

Simon Williams (born 16 June 1946 in Windsor, Berkshire) is an English actor with many television and film roles.
His film roles include Jabberwocky (1977), Agony (1979), and The Prisoner of Zenda (1979).
In 1969, he played the role of the lead character (and robot) in the TV series Slim John.
His most famous television role was as Captain (later Major) James Bellamy in Upstairs, Downstairs from 1971 to 1975.
He was also seen as Inspector Roderick Alleyn in the adaptation of Ngaio Marsh's tale Artists in Crime. Later the role was taken over by Patrick Malahide.
Other television roles include Agony (1979), Don't Wait Up (1983), Bergerac (1991), Law and Disorder (1994), dinnerladies (1998) and a recurring role as Sir Charles Merrick in Holby City. He played Group Captain Gilmore in the 1988 Doctor Who serial Remembrance of the Daleks and also appeared in Nekromanteia — a spin off audio drama based on Doctor Who by Big Finish Productions. He is the brother-in-law of actor Nigel Havers who married his late sister, Polly.
