[edit] Pre-NHL

Gagné was 16 when he broke into the QMJHL (Quebec Major Junior Hockey League) as a member of the Beauport Harfangs during the 1996–97 season. After spending the year learning and maturing while playing on the third and fourth lines, Gagné finished with 31 points (9 goals and 22 assists) in 51 games. In two full seasons with the Quebec Remparts, Gagné totaled 189 points, 80 goals and 109 assists, in only 114 games. That included a 120 point season in 1998-99 in which he tallied 50 goals and 70 assists, along with 42 minutes in penalties. Gagné was also 'Mr. Clutch' during his playoff career for the Remparts, recording 20 goals and 13 assists for 33 points in 25 career playoff matches. However, the Remparts failed to win a QMJHL Championship or a Memorial Cup Championship during the two years that Gagné was a member of the organization. After the 1998-99 season, Gagné graduated to the pro ranks. To show their appreciation for him and what he did for the franchise during his career, the Remparts retired Gagné's #12 jersey during a ceremony early on in the 1999–2000 season. Gagné joined NHL hall-of-famer Guy Lafleur as the only two players that have had their jersey's retired by the Quebec Remparts.

[edit] NHL career

Gagné was the 22nd overall pick by the Philadelphia Flyers at the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.

Gagné, one of the quickest players in the NHL, scored one of the fastest goals in NHL overtime history on January 5, 2006, taking just 7 seconds to score on New York Rangers goalie Kevin Weekes.

On September 11, 2006, Gagne, a restricted free agent, signed a 5-year contract extension with the Flyers, worth over $25 million guaranteed.
