Simon Dumont

Simon Francis Dumont (born July 9, 1986) is an American professional skier. Considered to be a leader in the freeskiing movement, Dumont is also one of the best superpipe riders in the world, known best for his outrageous amplitude and nothing-to-lose style. He has also appeared in several ski films.

Dumont began skiing competitively in 2003, a year in which he won the Whistler Invitational Superhit and placed fourth in the US Open.

In 2004, Dumont wowed spectators at the Winter X Games, taking home the gold medal in the Superpipe, a performance that earned him a spot on ESPN's Top Ten Plays of the Week. In addition, he took first place in the Ultimate Bumps and Jumps Quarterpipe, Whistler Invitation Super Hit and King of the Globe. Also in 2004, he finished second-place at the Whistler Invitational Big Air and Whistler Invitational Superpipe and third-place at the US Open Superpipe.

By 2005, Dumont had earned a name for himself as one of the best superpipe riders in the world by winning gold again in the Winter X Games Superpipe. He also took second-place at the Ultimate Bumps and Jumps and fourth-place at the Winter X Games Slopestyle in 2005.

On March 11, while filming in Park City, Utah, Dumont overshot a 100-foot gap by another 100 feet, fracturing his pelvis in three places and rupturing his spleen. Two weeks later, he attended a competition in Sweden to cheer on friend and fellow skier Jon Olsson. Eight weeks after his life-threatening crash, he was back skiing at Mammoth Mountain.

In January of 2007, Dumont won $25,000 at the Inaugral Honda Ski Tour held in Sun Valley, in Idaho's Bald Mountain.

Most recently, Simon competed in the eleventh Winter X Games, finishing second in the Superpipe behind Tanner Hall.

His sponsors include Salomon, Oakley, Inc., Giro, Target, Dakine and Red Bull.

Born in Bethel, Maine to Francis and Barbara Dumont, Simon has one older brother, Adam, who resides in Florida, and a younger sister, Felicia.

He attended Telstar Regional High School in Bethel, where he graduated in 2004. He was a participant in the school's golf program as well as a star soccer player.
