[edit] Biography
Three thousand years ago, Simon attempted to take over the world of Trollzopolis by stealing most of the magic from the trollz and using it for his own evil purposes. He was eventually defeated by a group of trollz using the Magic of the Five, but even though he was sealed away in another dimension, he permanently destroyed most of the magic in Trollzopolis and forever changed the way people in Trollzopolis live.
In the present time, the seal on his prison was weakened when the Best Friends For Life accidentally unlocked the Magic of the Five. Following this, his faithful minion Snarf was able to escape into the real world and trick the Best Friends For Life into releasing him from his prison entirely. Since then, he has attempted to take over present-day Trollzopolis and destroy the Best Friends For Life and The Ancients, the only people who are able to send him back to his prison.
[edit] Appearances
Simon was first mentioned in Five Spells Trouble after the Best Friends For Life first utilized the Magic of the Five. Obsidian told the girls about an ancient evil that was sealed away long ago and that by awakening the Magic of the Five, they may have also awoken the very evil that was sealed away.
Simon was again mentioned in First Day of School by Snarf who was attempting to recruit the girls into helping him release his master from a dimensional prison.
In Onyx's Gem, Snarf succeeds in tricking the girls into releasing Simon from his prison, and it is also the first time Simon's name is revealed to the girls.
Simon first begins his attacks on the girls in Topaz Possessed after taking control over Topaz's body and trying to adapt to life in the present day while attempting to destroy the girls. He is eventually foiled and driven away when the girls discover him inhabiting Topaz's body.
In The Big Test, Simon returns to attack the girls and the girls seek Obsidian's help in sealing him back into his prison for good. Obsidian helps the girls make a potion containing the exact spell used to seal Simon away three thousand years ago. Simon attempts to stop the girls from completing the potion, but is unsuccessful and is soundly defeated during a showdown at their school.
Simon would later reappear in Mirror Mirror, it being revealed that although the potion succeeded in sealing him back in his prison, it wasn't strong enough to seal his magic completely, as he is still able to affect and interact with the real world. His goals shift from defeating the girls to finding a way to escape his prison by manipulating them. He first devises a plan to trick Sapphire into opening a portal to set him free, but is quickly pushed back into it moments after his escape when the other girls come to her aid.
Simon would then attempt to break up the Best Friends For Life in Ruby's Rules of Partying by having Snarf pull pranks on the girls in an attempt to get them to turn on one another as well as using Ruby's superficial attitude to drive a wedge between the girls. If the five girls stop being friends, then the Magic of the Five will disappear along with the seal on his prison. The girls' friendship proves to be stronger than Simon's trickery and deceit, however, and his plan fails.
Simon's luck turns around in Forever Amber when Ruby unwittingly borrows a powerful magical ring from Amethyst's grandmother for a renaissance fair the school is hosting. Simon identifies the ring from his prison and quickly snatches it from Ruby. Using its power, Simon escapes from his prison and attacks the girls at the fair, stronger than ever with the ring boosting his powers. Simon announces his plans to rewrite reality using the ring to make it so the world would return to its medieval roots, stating that technology inconveniences him since he has no idea how to use it. Amethyst's grandmother, Mr. Trollheimer, and Obsidian attempt to stop him, and they succeed in holding him off, but in an attempt to help them, Amethyst mistakenly gets in the way and Simon's supposed defeat turns out to be a ruse.
In Simply Simon, it is revealed he succeeded in rewriting reality so that the world is now just like the renaissance fair with Simon as its ruler. The Best Friends For Life are the only ones aware of this, as everyone else in town has no memory of present-day Trollzopolis. In his castle, Simon constructs a machine to drain the remaining magic in the world and transfer it to himself, stating that once he does, no one will be able to stop him since he'll control all the magic. The Best Friends For Life manage to break into his castle and sabotage his machine, using it to drain away Simon's magic instead and returning the world back to the way it originally was.
Although his previous plan foiled, Simon is still free from his prison and now resides in the Haunted Woodz on the outskirts of Trollzopolis. In The Tree and the Dragon, when Topaz and Onyx come looking for their Ancients in the Haunted Woodz, Simon takes this opportunity to try and destroy them. After they manage to rescue Zirconia, Topaz's ancient who Simon imprisoned as a tree in the Haunted Woodz three thousand years ago, Simon sends his pet dragon after them to get her back. However, the three of them manage to escape.
Onyx returns to the Haunted Woodz in A Dragon's Tale to continue the search for her Ancient, but this time Simon is ready for her and manages to turn her into a tree to replace the one he lost when they freed Zirconia. Onyx soon finds out Simon's pet dragon is really Spinell, her ancient that Simon turned into a dragon when he turned Zirconia into a tree. When Onyx attempts to escape with Spinell, Simon attacks them, but her friends arrive to help her and Simon is driven away.
Simon then appears in The Day the Magic Died, attempting to steal the magic of the Amber Cavez, but his plans are quickly foiled when the girls accidentally cause a cave-in.
Simon's final appearance is in Where the Trollz Are when he learns that the girls are visiting Zirconia and Spinell at their hideout in Trollhiti. Knowing that the two Ancients are still weak from being under Simon's curse for three thousand years, Simon plans to destroy them before they can regain their full powers. However, thanks to all the magic training the girls have been doing over the past months, along with a little help from Zirconia and Spinell, the Best Friends For Life manage to seal away Simon back into his prison, his power fully sealed away, defeating him once and for all.
[edit] Abilities
Simon has the ability of using magic, which allows him to manipulate reality on a basic level. As long as he is in the real world, his magic is unhindered and he is an extremely powerful force to be reckoned with. If he is trapped in his dimensional prison, he only has enough power to affect the real world in minor ways (such as speaking through an inanimate object) or send and receive small objects (such as Snarf) through a small gap in the dimension vortex.
He is also in possession of a powerful staff in the real world which amplifies his power by an unknown amount and also acts as a means of transportation for him (riding on it like a broom.)
[edit] Trivia
- He is possibly named after simonellite, as most characters on the show are named after minerals and gemstones.
- His design resembles that of a schoolboy's, complete with a bowtie.
