Simcoe Road 27 is formerly Ontario Highway 27. After the Highway 400 extension was completed in the 1980s, the section of Highway 27 north of Barrie was downgraded to a county road. The section north of Waverley was made a part of Highway 93. The road stretches from the York Region/Simcoe Region boundary (Highway 9) to Penetanguishene, Ontario.
[edit] Different names in different regional municipalities
Simcoe Road 27 also runs through York Region and Toronto, Ontario. South of Highway 9, the road is referred to as York Regional Road 27. Further south, south of Steeles Avenue, it is referred to as Highway 27.

Portions of Simcoe Road 27 are now renamed as Barrie Street near Innisfil.
