[edit] Notre Dame Dorms

I got rid of the Notre Dame dorm articles because they are just not very notable or encyclopedaic. They also set a bad precedent; if we have articles on the dorms at ND, then why not dorms at other colleges? (This was actually used as an argument in an AFD discussion I was involved in.) So, I put a notice on the Wikiproject Indiana talk page, I put a merge tag on the articles, I discussed the matter with the articles' author (who agreed to the merger), and then I did the merge, after waiting a period of some days. For your info: I am not a Notre Dame graduate, although I certainly agree that it is one of the nation's most famous universities. So, do you still feel that the merger was wrong? I can always send the articles to AFD if necessary, but that's work. --Brianyoumans 17:37, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

  • I will go ahead and put merger tags on the articles to show that they are being merged back in. I'm afraid that I don't share your opinion that lots of interesting and notable information was lost, but I am certainly willing to see more content added to the List articles. Perhaps what could be done is to simply add links to the dorms' Housing Office and student websites, which are what the articles were based on anyways? --Brianyoumans 21:11, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Note

You aren't supposed to remove stuff from your talk page, btw. If you want to clear it up, archive it properly so that it can be retrieved easily. Brianyoumans 17:37, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

  • See WP:Archive. I wouldn't bother until it gets pretty long (as you can tell with mine, I've never bothered to archive it.) But your talk page is to some extent a record of your interactions with the rest of the Wikipedia community, and is therefore important information. You can tell from mine, for instance, that I've made a habit of deleting articles that I feel should not be in Wikipedia, and of course this has made some authors pretty unhappy. I feel it is a useful function, though - see WP:NOT for some reasons why. Brianyoumans 21:19, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
