[edit] Coat of Arms

Why does the coat of arms have both a Muslim and a Christian on it? Is it honoring the city's past, or some other reason? Stallions2010 21:16, 1 May 2006 (UTC).

These symbols are also on the CoA of the Concelhos of Albufeira, Alcoutim, Aljezur, Loule', Monchique, Portimao, Tavira - well I won't list them but 13/16 of them anyway. The Silves CoA combine the arms of the second to fourth portuguese kings (1185-1245) and the traditional Algarvan symbol of the two king’s heads (twice), I guess it's remembering the Algarve's moorish history. --Daeve 22:02, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
