Silvia Quandt (born 1937 in Berlin, Germany)

BACKGROUND

Eldest child of legendary German industrialist Herbert Quandt. Only child born from the marriage of Herbert Quandt and his first wife Ursel Munstermann who were married in 1933 and later divorced in 1940.

Silvia Quandt was born in Berlin but lives and works in Munich. Prior to her fathers death in 1982 Silvia received extensive investments and property which are controlled through various private companies in particular Silvia Quandt Capital GmbH. While her younger siblings Susanne Klatten and Stefan Quandt from her fathers third marriage have fortunes estimated in the billions of dollars mostly through large holdings in public companies BMW and Varta, Silvia Quandt's fortune is more difficult to estimate as it is mostly controlled through private holding companies.

ARTISTIC CAREER

Her artistic endeavours began with her studies at the Academy for Graphic Arts in Munich and an education as a commercial artist. Since the 1960s she has been working as a freelance painter. She received the Bruda Award in 1968 and the Swabian Art Award in 1969. Works by Silvia Quandt can be seen today at the Bayrischen Staatsgemäldesammlung (Bavarian State Painting Collection) and in the Haus der Kunst Art Museum in Munich.

Silvia Quandt's work is ascribed to Fantastic Realism, characterised by a tendency towards the Surreal, the oniric and also Romanticism in her paintings and graphic works. Some of her exhibits since 1967 in Germany: in Munich, Düsseldorf, Münster, Mannheim and Bremen; as well as abroad: London, Paris and Galerie Kornfeld in Zurich.
