Silvermoon
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the fictional Warcraft Universe, Silvermoon was the capital of the High Elf race and is located in Quel'Thalas. Silvermoon stands in Eversong Forest, the very heart of the Elven lands. It is currently home of the Blood Elves after its invasion and destruction by the Undead Scourge. It is the second capital for the Horde in the Eastern Kingdoms, the first being the undead Undercity.

[edit] Features
Silvermoon, located deep in Quel'Thalas, features many magically enchanted structures and forests. It was previously rich in resources, but suffered greatly upon conquest by the Scourge. It is also the location of the Sunwell, located on a well defended island. This sunwell is the source of much of the Elves' magic energy. When it was corrupted, they suffered withdrawal from the well's energies, since by that time, they had effectively become addicted to magic.
It also featured magically enchanted gates to protect the city, but they were destroyed by the Scourge. Also nearly everything floats in one way or another.
[edit] History
[edit] The Second War
The capital city of Quel'Thalas, Silvermoon was founded by the high elves after their arrival in Lordaeron thousands of years before. The city was constructed out of white stone and living plants in the style of the ancient Kaldorei Empire. The city contained the famous Academies of Silvermoon as a centre for the learning of Arcane Magic and Sunstrider Spire, a majestic palace home to the Royal family of the high elves. The Convocation of Silvermoon (also known as "The Silvermoon Council"), the ruling body of the high elves was also based here. Across a stretch of ocean to the north is the island that contains the Sunwell. [1]
During the second war, the elves of Silvermoon first allied themselves with the Alliance of Lordaeron. Troops from the nations of Azeroth and Dalaran were stationed in the city, but it was left largely unscathed.
[edit] The Scourge
During the third war, Silvermoon was attacked by an invasion from the Undead Scourge. The Death Knight, Arthas Menethil, utterly overwhelmed the elven defenders of the city, breaking through both of its enchanted gates and destroying its forests until they reached the city itself. They slaughtered most of its inhabitants and conquered the city. He then used its Sunwell to reanimate Kel'Thuzad into a Lich.
[edit] Reclamation by the Elves
The Scourge remained in Silvermoon for quite sometime, completely stripping it of resources. Eventually, they abandoned the city, and it was retaken by the Blood Elves, who have rebuilt it. It serves as the center of a new, albeit diminished, elven kingdom in the Eastern Kingdoms.
A great stretch of blight, known as the Dead Scar, runs through Silvermoon and Eversong forest, which is a constant reminder of the great Scourge invasion led by Prince Arthas. [2]
