Silverdale Comprehensive School is located in Sheffield in the United Kingdom. It serves approximately one-thousand two-hundred pupils from the local area, from ages eleven to eighteen. Silverdale achieves good results in national and external examinations,[1] but has been criticised in the past for not being so good at the pastoral side of schooling.[citation needed] Recent OFSTED reports have shown an improvement in all areas.[2][3]

The current head teacher is Mrs. Helen Storey.

Michael Vaughan, the current England cricket captain, and his Irish wife Nichola Shannon (who works for one of Vaughan's favoured charities, the Sheffield Children's Trust), are prominent Silverdale ex-pupils. See also Alumni of Silverdale School.

[edit] Recent developments

The school has recently received a grant to rebuild the existing school building. The new building will be constructed on the school field and is scheduled to open in 2008, when the old building will be demolished.[4] This is because the current one is in poor condition[3] and money has to be poured in to keep it usable.[citation needed] Work on the new building was expected to get underway at the end of the school summer holiday in 2006. Work was late in starting however and only began on 26th March 2007[5]. The school's management have tried to involve the school's pupil council in the design and layout of the finished building, but the effect this had on the plans is unclear due to poor communication.[citation needed]
