[edit] General Information

The Silver Queen Gondola is a single stage detachable grip gondola on Aspen Mountain in Aspen Colorado. It transports skiers and snowboarders form the base of the mountain to the summit. The gondola is powered by two electric engines with a backup of two diesel engines, located at the top terminal. All of the gondola's six passenger cabins can be removed from the cable and stored in a building adjacent to the top terminal: this is often done when bad weather is approaching.

[edit] History

The gondola was built in 1986 by Poma, and opened in November of that year. The original gondola cabins were replaced in 2006 with newer cabins that have more windows and ventilation.
