Silo (library)

SILO is a data format and library developed at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory for storing rectilinear, curvilinear, unstructured, or point meshes in 2D and 3D. It fully supports Adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) via use of data blocks structured in a a directory hierarchy.

Currently, VisIt![1], another LLNL software package supports SILO format for visualization.

SILO manual is available both in PDF[2] and Postcript[3] format. Source code for SILO is availble for download[4].
