Sikarwars are an old clan of Suryavanshi Rajputs of first Century A.D. They draw their name from Sikar (Rajasthan) the district that was allocated to Swarup Rao Sikarwar to rule. They shifted to Sikri (Now Fatehpur Sikri) some times around 837 A.D after ruling over Sikar for about nine generations. Agra area was annexed from Anangpal Tomar of Delhi during the reign of Rawal Maitri Bhatji of Chitor. Badalgarh [Present Red fort] was built by Raja Badal Singh a sikarwar rajput during 1475 A.D. City of Sikri was renamed Fatehpur Sikri by Babur after the Battle of Khanua in 1527 A.D.

They are also known by different names as Sikerwar,Sikerwal, Shikarwar, Shikarwal, Sikriwal or Sakarwar. Khavad Ji Sikarwar was the founder of the city of Sikri in 593 AD. Famous historian P.N Oak has proved that the city of Fatehpur Sikri was founded by Sikarwar Rajputs. Shri Hansraj Bhatia in his book has also mentioned that the city was founded by Sikarwar Rajputs. After the collapse of Fatehpur Sikri, the Rajputs of this region spread to Uttar Pradesh , Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and other regions. They are now residing in Agra, Hardoi, Gorakhpur, Gazipur, Azamgarh , Dholpur (Rajasthan), HazariBag (Jharkhand), Palamu, Gaya , Gwalior, Bhind, Morena (Madhya Pradesh), Rohtas and Bhabua/Kaimur(Chainpur, Harshu Brahma) districts of Bihar, certain parts of Rajasthan especially the Pahara region (Kelwara) of Udaipur. Gahmar a village in Ghazipur (Uttar Pradesh) has maximum number of Sikarwar Rajputs.A region adjoining Chambal valley is still known as Sikarwar.

Sikarwar Vansh is divided into three branches- 1. Gardhiya - The Rajputs residing in the region of gardah are known as Gardhiya Sikarwar. 2. Parvatiya- Those residing in mountaneous regions are known by Parvatiya Sikarwar. 3. Bankha Sikarwar- After conquering Bankgarh, those who stayed there were known by Bankaha Sikarwar. There are 12 villages around Bankgarh- Bank, Akorhi, Gamharia, Chapra, Govardhanpur, Jammuhar, Kanchanpur, Manikpur, Basti, Bhushula , Bhadkuiyan. The region is known as Barah Gaoan ( 12 villages).

They consider themselves to be the descendents of Lakshmana (Brother of Lord Rama)

They are also known as "Raghav" in Eastern Uttar Pradesh. So "Sikarwars" and "Raghavas" are same.

Sikarwar Rajput is also available in Village- Majhgaon, Kaithatikar in banka dist. and also available in Parsando in Munger dist. Bihar

Among the 12 bankha sikrwar village jammuhar i.e.JAMUHAR has signified itself in various fields.Allmost all political parties like congress (Kumar manoj Singh),BJP(Gopal Nr.Singh and Kumar Binod Singhj)has fielded candidates for assembeley and parliamentry elections from sikarwar families of Jamuhar.A medical college by these families(Founder Chairman-Shri Gopal Narayan Singh Ex.M.L.A.) is on anvil.No's of Doctors, Enginners, Lawyers ,Proffesors, Bussinesmen and agriculturist are actively contributing to nation.Mr Baidya Nath Pd Singh Has represented India in 1965 as an IFYE and contributed handsomely in agriculture field after coming from U.S.A.
