Sigurður Jónsson

Sigurður Jónsson (born September 27, 1966 in Akranes), also known as Siggi Jónsson, is an Icelandic footballer and coach. He is currently the manager of Swedish club Djurgårdens IF.

Sigurður started his career at his hometown club IA Akranes before moving to English club Sheffield Wednesday in February 1985. He spent four years at Wednesday, including a brief spell on loan to Barnsley in 1986, playing 67 times for them. He made his English league debut against Leicester City in March 1985. He was signed by Arsenal in July 1989 for a fee of £475,000 and made his Arsenal debut at home against Manchester City on October 14, 1989. However his period at Arsenal was wrecked by injury and he made just nine appearances in three seasons for the London side.

Sigurður rejoined IA Akranes in the summer of 1992 and spent another three seasons there, before joining Swedish side Örebro SK in 1995. Two years later he joined Scottish side Dundee United, where again injury reduced his opportunities to play; he made 43 league appearances. He left United and signed for IA Akranes for a third time, before finally retiring in 2001. Additionally, during his career Sigurður represented Iceland at international level 65 times, scoring three goals.

As a coach, he had spells with FH, Vikingur and Grindavík, before being appointed Djurgårdens manager in November 2006.
